From: Nyaruguru, Rwanda
Varietal: Red Bourbon
Process: Washed
Notes: Lemon-lime, Green Apple, Tamarind
125g whole coffee beans
Coffee cherries are handpicked, sorted, and then floated to remove defects. Cherries are the pulped and dry fermented for 8-12 hours, and the wet fermented for 8-12 hours. Washed and then slow dried for 30+ days.
This Red Bourbon has a great balance of acidity and sweetness.
Over days of tasting we have experienced notes of lemon-lime, green apple, tamarind, peach, pear, red grape, honeydew, and light florals.
About the Producer
Located in the Southern Province of Rwanda, Fugi is tucked between the Nyungwe National Forest and the border of Burundi. Fugi was built in 2013, but it was purchased by Emmanuel Rusatira (Sundog Trading/Baho) in 2016. Since then, he’s dedicated this station to solely producing specialty grade coffee.
Fugi was one of Emmanuel's first two washing stations, and it played an integral role as the foundation upon which he launched Baho Coffee operations back in 2016. It’s the third smallest station in the Baho collection, purchasing cherry from around 950 smallholder farmers and producing 900 60kg bags of exportable specialty grade coffee each year. This specific lot is a separation from Kiyonza Hill.
“All year round we work together with coffee producers to support them both on the field and financially. This is to produce the best coffee cherries of the region and boost quality, year after year. All our attention goes to selection, depulping, fermentation, washing, drying, storage, and continuous quality control. We believe coffee talks. Cleanliness, mouthfeel, aroma, sweetness, acidity, tasting notes - all come to the surface in the cup. Listening to our coffees and sharing their conversation is our main goal. That is why we want to connect with you to establish a long term relationship wherein we can support each other, grow together, and make a difference in coffee culture and beyond!”
